Fenlon: Kenny was the right choice

Pat Fenlon reckons Stephen Kenny was the right man for the Shamrock Rovers job despite their disappointing season.

The Hoops parted company with Kenny on September 11 and brought in Brian Laws as a Director of Football just six days later, but the Dublin club are still without a permanent boss with no guarantee Laws will stay beyond the end of the season.

The Hibernian boss explained: “Stephen's pedigree was very good so I think he was the right man for the job but it didn't work out for him and that's football.

“It's not as easy as people think to manage a side. It's disappointing he had to go because I know what he goes through day in and day out and how much work he would have put in.

“I don't really know what happened with Rovers this season but it's sad that Stephen is gone because any manager losing their job is not nice to see.

“Being a manager is a very, very difficult job. People from the outside looking at Rovers before the season started would have said it was going to be a tough job for whoever got it because of the last couple of seasons they have had.”

Fenlon – who managed Shelbourne, Derry City and Bohemians before taking over at Hibs almost a year ago - had surprisingly been priced at 5/1 with some bookmakers to takeover at Tallaght but the 43-year-old laughed off the suggestion.
