Sligo Rovers raise over 80K in fund raising drive

Sligo Rovers have raised over €80,000 following their GoFundMe drive which closed earlier today after more than 1,500 people had contributed to the cause.

The fund was only open for 10 days and saw donations flood in from supporters and former players with contributions from supporters of Everton, Celtic and Accrington Stanley. Everton of course have links to the Bit O Red after the 60K sale of Seamus Coleman back in 2009.

Sligo Rovers chairman was somewhat lost for words when commenting on the fantastic generosity of the public.

"We have been taken aback by the response and over the last 10 days, I think we've seen some of the biggest strengths within our club.

"There is a passion here that always come to the fore. As we look forward to the restart, this fund will be a huge help financially and allow us to plan for the next few months in a much stronger position.

"There are still hurdles to overcome. But what we've seen is the defiance that Sligo Rovers has always had.

"I want to thank and congratulate the Bit O' Red Supporters Trust. The supporters are the heartbeat of our club and they will be behind our team and management every step of the way from now until November."
