Republic of Ireland midfielder Megan Connolly signs for English top-flight side Brighton and Hove Albion

Republic of Ireland international midfielder Megan Connolly has signed for English Women’s Super League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old will team up with international teammate Marie Hourihan and Sophie Perry, the latter of whom is currently on loan with Lewes.

Connolly has just returned to this side of the Atlantic following a stint in the USA on a footballing scholarship, where she juggled football commitments with Florida Seminoles and studying Sports Management at Florida University.

Cork native Connolly has made six appearances for the Girls in Green with one goal to her name and her solitary strike for the Republic of Ireland came in a 9-0 rout of Montenegro in 2016.

The game happened to be Sue Ronan’s penultimate game in charge of the senior international side prior to her resignation in September 2016.

“We are delighted to bring in a young player of Megan’s quality to the club,” manager Hope Powell told the club’s media team.

“She has enjoyed a successful career playing college football out in the States, and already has senior international experience with Ireland.

“I am very much looking forward to working with Megan and would like to welcome her to the club.”
