Newly-promoted Finn Harps re-sign Maltese international Jacob Borg

Recently-promoted Finn Harps have announced that Maltese defender Jacob Borg has re-signed following a successful second half to the 2018 season at Finn Park.

Borg, who counts Australian side Dandaloo and Maltese outfits Silema Wanderers, Zebburg Rangers, Balzan and Gzira among his former clubs, played a starring role in much of Harps' end-of-season success.

Borg played in defence and in midfield as Ollie Horgan’s side sealed a return to the Premier Division at the expense of Limerick in the play-offs.

After making his debut for Harps against Longford Town in July, Borg went on to make seven further appearances for the club in the First Division.

The one-time Maltese international scored his first goal for the club in a 7-1 hammering of Cabinteely in September.

Speaking following the completion of the deal, Harps boss Ollie Horgan noted his delight after securing Borg’s services for another season.

“We’re glad that the negotiations have been completed and Jacob has now signed a contract for next season,” Horgan told the club’s website.

“He came in during the July transfer window and did very well for us. Jacob is versatile and a player with lots of experience. Hopefully that will help us a lot in the Premier Division.”
