Maxim Kouogun joins Warrenpoint Town from UCD

Former UCD central defender has joined Northern Irish Premier League side Warrenpoint Town after a fruitful four-year stint at Belfield.

Now 21, the powerful centre-half made his debut for the Students all the way back in 2015 during a EA Sports Cup defeat at home to Cabinteely.

Since then, the Cameroon native has made 84 appearances for Collie O’Neill’s young guns as Warrenpoint Town’s new recruit also had the prestige of representing UCD in the Europa League Qualifying Rounds back in 2015.

However, despite being voted amongst his First Division peers as one of the best defenders in the league, Kouogun has endured a difficult 2018 season for the Students.

While College are riding high in the table and look to be just weeks away from clinching the First Division crown, the 21-year-old centre back has struggled with injuries throughout the season.

His final appearance for the South Dubliners came in the 2-0 home win against Pike Rovers in the Irish Daily Mail FAI 1st Round at the UCD Bowl.

Joining forces with his new employers on Saturday morning, Kouogun made quite the impact for Warrenpoint Town that very afternoon with an opening day goal.

Despite this debut strike, his opening goal proved to not be enough as the Milltown Playing Fields outfit fell to a late home defeat against Crusaders.

The result has left Stephen McDonnell’s side rooted to the bottom of the table after just four league games.
