Shamrock Rovers 0 - 3 Newcastle United - Lineups

That is the end of our Tallaght updates, be sure and visit back for coverage many other friendlies and LOI League games taking place over the next weeks. Thank you to all the emailers and viewers. From a wet Tallaght Stadium, it's adios from me!! (report and interviews will be available later)

16:50.... And that is Full Time. Very entertaining fare here at Tallaght Stadium. Rovers put up a good fight but Newcastle just proved too strong at the end. Both teams getting a standing ovation as they walk off here.

16:48....GOAL NEWCASTLE - Ranger - 88 minutes Ameobi breaks through again but his shot is saved when Rovers Keeper dives at his feet. The ball breaks kindly to Ranger though and he is able to slot hom from outside the area into an open goal

16:46....GOAL NEWCASTLE - Ameobi - 87 minutes Deflected shot into the roof of the net from just outside the 6 yard box. Rovers keeper had no chance with that

16:45.... On a pitch packed with players who have played at the highest levels of En glish football and European football, O'Connor is really standing out here.....but that's because of his orange boot

16:45.... Enrique shows excellent strength to bundle O'Connor off the ball when it looks as though he might break through.

As the game draws near an end, Chris from Whitley replies How the mighty have fallen. Just a couple of years ago NUFC were playing in the Champions League. Sacking Bobby Robson was the biggest mistake the club could have made. Bobby should have taken Alan Shearer as an understudy and continued as Director of Football. NUFC are currently made to look like fools, but we will come back.

16:43.... Ameobi has just broken through twice in a minute here, the first time he scuffed his shot well wide and this time he passes to Lualua but his shot also flies wide

16:42.... 86 minutes gone now and Rovers are giving it one last bash!! Mvh - How would they manage themselves? With about 14 different managers in one season I'd imagine

Mvh, from Sweden, emailed in How would Newcastle manage themselves in the Eircom Premier, do you think?

16:37.... Chris, we had an email in, in reply to yours saying your situation sounds like half the League of Ireland clubs current situations!!!

16:37.... And that's brought the Rovers fans to life. That really was Rovers' best chance of the match. the ball did drift just behind Jurco but he seemed to take an age to turn and shoot

16:37.... His reward is an immediate substitution for Sean O'Connor

16:37.... What a chance!! Pavel Jurco has just hit the post after Newcastle keeper Harper fluffed a simple clearance. Jurco spun and managed to smash his shot off the post from just outside the 6-yard box on the right hand side.

Chris, with a location established being from Whitley Bay, emailed in Everyone in The Ship in Monkseaton will be wondering whether next season is going to be as bad as last season. The team will have no direction or motivation with an idiot in charge and knowing that the whole club could be in administration next week !!

16:35.... Sub for Rovers, McNeil replaced by Karl Coleman

16:32.... 15 minutes remaining in this game. Free kick from a tight angle near the byline on the left hand side taken by Enrique just grazes the top of the bar.

16:30.... Number 18 has just come on for rovers. There is no number 18 on the official teamsheet and that's caused a bit of confusion here in the press box. I don't know who he is, and neither does anyone else. Thomas Hydeland is his name on for Ross Chisholm on 73 minutes. Welcome to Tallaght Thomas.

16:29.... Well Chris, to be honest, no, far from it at the moment. A few good passages of play but they haven't really been tested here today the way they will in the upcoming season.

Chris, from somewhere undetermined, emailed in asking Do Newcastle look like a top Championship side?

16:24.... Newcastle taking over a bit and look likely to double their lead sooner rather than later

16:23.... Beautiful cross form a tight angle from Danquah, but Taylor's head goes agonizingly wide of McNeil's left hand post. Half the ground thought it was going in. Rovers beginning to tire a little. Newcastle having far more possession. The bounce and energy they showed in the first half hasn't been quite here in the second

16:22.... For any LOI fans watching in, Paul Walsh has signed for Waterford United from Limerick FC today. We will have a full story and hopefully an interview soon.

16:21.... Lovely bit of skill form Danquah before Lualua is muscled off the ball outside the area. Taylor's free kick is straight into McNeil's arms however.

Our email if you wish to get in contact with me, is extratimelive@gmail.com

16:19.... As with changes in friendlies, there is a bit of a lack of action this half. The changes have spoiled the games momentum a little.

16:18.... This one is to our Newcastle fans out there. Do you think your team will come straight back up? Will Alan Shearer be the man to do it?

16:16.... My waffling is partly because the game has been stopped for 4 or 5 minutes as Gal Andrewly has just been stretchered off. Rovers down to 10 men for a few minutes before Eoin Dloyle comes on for him. 57 minutes played now.

16:15.... The entire stand behind the goal to my left are wearing the free orange plastic ponchos Rovers have been handing out. They look more like the crowd at a Dutch game than at a Rovers game. Oxegen Music Festival is taking place a few miles up the road from here. The rain will be an unwelcome visitor for those folk. Mudfest pending.

16:12.... Well Joe, how's it going, it's very hard to judge them on their first 45 minutes of football this season, but Beye and Duff stood out for me from that half. We will see if anyone raises their game in this half.

16:10....GOAL NEWCASTLE - RYAN TAYLOR - 52 minutes
Pinball in the box, the ball looked to be cleared but Ameobi's shot can only be palmed away by McNeil and the ball falls stright to Taylor ho slots home from a couple of yards out. He won't score many easier this season

Joe, Newcastle fan, from the North East of England emailed in Which of the Newcastle players have impressed you the most so far?

16:08.... Taylor's free kick bounces awkwardly in front of McNeil and he palms it away for the corner.

16:06.... Hey Greig, dedication to the Newcastle cause at 3 am!! Well Ranger has had a few good passes but hasn't been as central to things as Beye or Baheng. His best contribution was setting up Duff for that first half chance.

Greig, Newcastle fan, in Christchurch, New Zealand at 3am in the morning emailed in Is Ranger looking any good?

16:04.... Game restarting now and there are a few changes to report. Duff is gone, and Alan Smith takes the field. The last time I seen Alan Smith play in person was Liverpool versus Leeds United in Anfield, a game which saw Leeds win by two Rio Ferdinand goals to nil if memory serves correctly. The Newcastle team is now the full subs bench playing minus Ole Soderberg.

15:59.... Rovers are back out on the pitch now.

15:57.... In the league, Sligo Rovers and Derry City make their second appearances of the season here on 18th July and the 1st August, sandwiched between Bohemians at Dalymount. Newcastle make their Championship bow away to West Bromich Albion on Aug 8th

15:55.... Newcastle are the first of the high-profile friendlies taking place at Tallaght Stadium this July. Hibernians play here on Monday 27th, but before that there's a little team from Spain here on Monday week (20th July).

15:49....Any Newcastle fans looking in? I'm at the ground and happy to field any questions, so drop me an email at extratimelive@gmail.com. Remember to include your name and location!!

15:49.... The new stand is really taking shape just opposite the press box here. the stand itself seems to be more or less up, barring a roof on one section of it and it looks as though it's just the seats that have to be put into place

15:46.... 0-0 HT. It's been a really enjoyable game so far, albeit one with only a handful of clear-cut chances. Duff probably should have put the Toon 1-0 up on 27 minutes but apart from that Shamrock Rovers have passed, defended and attacked well.

15:44.... 44 minutes gone and Nicky Butt blasts the ball over from just outside the "D" as the first half is drawing to a close.

15:42.... A mixture of cheers and boos for the Newcastle players warming up here on the touchline. Notable names include Alan SMITH, Shola AMEOBI and Kazanga LUALUA.

15:36.... Shamrock Rovers were in action last night coming away with three points from a 2-1 away win to Bray Wanderers. 36 minutes gone and Abdrezky does all the hard work well, running through a cul-de-sac of three Newcastle players, plays a one two with Trouten but when he receives the ball again in the six yard box can only poke his shot at Stephen Harper

15:34.... 50 year old ex Irish International (with 53 caps) Chris Hughton is the Newcastle manager here today.

15:32.... Fabricio Coloccini's hair is really a sight to behold. He looks like he's been given e day off from Metallica. By the way, both teams playing in their familiar colours- the home team in green and white hoops, Newcastle in black and white stripes

15:28.... Pavel Jurco drills the ball wide of Harper's post from the left hand side. Harper did get a touch though and it's a Rovers corner.

15:26.... Best chance of the game so far falls to Newcastle. Duff passed the ball just wide after being played in by Nile Ranger on the left hand side after 26 minutes. The Toon Army should really be in front.

15:23.... The Rovers manager Michel O'Neill is looking very dapper in his suit today. Duff pushed over on the right hand side of the Rovers area. Duff's resulting cross leads to nothing. The Rovers fans singing at duff "you'll never play for Rovers".

15:21....Be sure and enter our competition for to win two tickets to the Shelbourne -v- Millwall match in Tolka Park on Tuesday. You can enter by clicking here. Good luck!!!

15:19.... 19min- Beye does well to hold up the ball in the area but Butt can only get a toe to the pass and McNeil saves. It's a decent game so far. Great atmosphere, great crowd, lively game. Shamrock Rovers by no means overawed by their cross-cahnnel opponents, attacking at every opportunity

15:17.... 17 minutes gone and there is an injury worry for Rovers. Padraig Amond is receiving treament after being felled by Habib Beye on the left hand side of the area.

15:14.... Predictably, Damien Duff is getting cheers from the home fans, while bad boy Joey Barton has been attracting a few boos.

15:10.... Darragh Maguire has already made a couple of decent runs, one of which ended with him being felled on the edge of the area by Duff.

15:09.... It's currently cloudy and breezy in South Dublin. If you wish to leave a comment or email us, you can do so by mailing extratimelive@gmail.com.

15:07.... 6 minutes gone in the First half and it's a sell out in Tallaght Stadium.

15:04.... Welcome to the Extratime coverage of Shamrock Rovers versus Newcastle.
