St Patrick's Athletic advanced to the semi-finals of the Leinster Senior Cup thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Leinster Senior League side Firhouse Clover at Richmond Park on Tuesday.

Goals from debutant Jamie Lennon and Alex O'Hanlon's second Saints goal had given the League of Ireland side a commanding lead before Luke Walsh's injury-time header set up a nervy finish.

The visitors from Tallaght, who are in pre-season ahead of the Senior Sunday season, gave as good as they got against a Pats side playing with confidence on the back of a four-game unbeaten run.

Lennon opened the scoring with an unstoppable drive from 25 yards that flew into the top corner of Tadgh Murphy's goal to give the Saints a lead with 15 minutes.

With the clock ticking down, O'Hanlon doubled the lead after chesting the ball down and hitting a volley on the stretch that looped over the unfortunate Murphy, who again had no chance.

Walsh crashed a header past Barry Murphy moments later as Clover looked to force extra time but it proved too little, too late as Pats set up a semi-final date at home to Shelbourne.
