Veteran former Derry City midfielder Ciaran Martyn joins Ballinamallard United

Ballinamallard United have announced the signing of veteran former Derry City midfielder Ciaran Martyn from Glenavon.

 

The 37-year-old has vast experience having made his League of Ireland debut for UCD 20 years ago before spending a very successful eight years with the Candystripes.

 

The Sligo native has already appeared in a friendly for the club against Loughgall and got another 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to his hometown club Sligo Rovers on Tuesday night.

 

He scored 34 goals in 107 appearances during a prolific spell with The Lurgan Blues and has also lined out for Glentoran and spent time on loan at Norwegian top-flight outfit Fredrikstad.

 

"I've known Ciaran a long time,” said Mallards boss Gavin Dykes.

 



“I managed him at Derry and he has a proven track record. He has won 2 Irish Cups at Glenavon and has enjoyed an extensive career both North and South of the border.

 

“He is an exceptionally fit lad and he will give us an option for goals from midfield."
