Bray Wanderers ease worries with confirmation they've found new funding

Bray Wanderers have released a statement confirming they have located the funds to pay players at least until the end of the season.

Stating “we regret the unease caused by our honesty,” chairman Denis O'Connor rolled back on statements made over the past few days that suggested the club may struggle to meet wages.

The Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland (PFAI) revealed on Sunday that players had been informed the club only had enough to cover a week's wages and all players could look for other clubs.

O'Connor later disputed this assertion – although several players confirmed they were under the same impression – and it appears all contracts will now be fulfilled.

The 'unease' began on Friday evening at half-time in Bray's 3-0 home defeat to Dundalk, when O'Connor issued a statement chastising the people of Bray for not coming out to support the team in numbers.

That statement ended with the ominous question, “what is the point?”

With funding now secured to take the club through to the end of the season, Harry Kenny's squad can now concentrate on maintaining third place and a potential spot in Europe next season.

Bray Wanderers' statement in full:

The Club are pleased to announce that within the past week funding has been organised to fulfil the remainder of this season and into 2018.

We regret the unease caused by our honesty and the concern it caused to our fans/players/coaches/our fellow Clubs in The League of Ireland and their fans/FAI and the greater football community including St Josephs Boys plus the Wicklow Leagues.

To all my apologies

We had a very busy week and are now in a better place because the call was answered by people in County Wicklow and South Dublin.

It was most encouraging the various messages of support plus the financial backing received. It certainly answered my question on whether we can get support for this Club.

A special message to all the League of Ireland Clubs who contacted me to support and offer help – it proves that the Clubs are working for each other.

I have written earlier to the PFAI setting out that all contracts will be honoured.

So now, let’s get behind Harry Kenny and get the results flowing. On that note a special word of thanks to Harry and his staff who have shown excellent support and commitment this past week.

As always we have an open door for anybody who wishes to help in any way.

Bray Wanderers FC is back in business and look forward to our next home match.
