Republic of Ireland drawn in strong group for Women's World Cup qualifying

The Republic of Ireland have been drawn alongside former winners Norway in a strong qualifying group for the 2019 Women's World Cup in France.

 

Also drawn alongside Colin Bell's side are this summer's European Championships hosts the Netherlands, Slovakia and Northern Ireland.

 

Slovakia were the Girls in Green's most recent opponents when a Steph Roche penalty ensured a 1-0 win for Bell in his first home game in Tallaght.

 

35 teams were drawn into seven groups of five each, tiered according to their UEFA co-efficient. Ireland were placed in Pot C, the third-ranked pool.

 

The group games will be played on a home and away basis between September 11th, 2017 and September 4th, 2018 with the exact schedule to be confirmed in due course.

 



All seven group winners will qualify automatically for the finals while the four best runners-up will be drawn in two play-offs to take place in October 2018.

 

The winners of those two games will meet in a final play-off in November to determine UEFA's eighth representative.
