Watch: Waterford put five past Wexford in EA Sports Cup massacre

Waterford put five past Wexford as the battle of the south-east descended into a massacre of the home team in the EA Sports Cup at Ferrycarrig Park.

Davy McDaid and Owen Wall scored a brace apiece – three of which came in the final five minutes – while former Wexford defender Gary Delaney also got on the scoresheet for Alan Reynolds' Blues.

Liam Donnelly forced a fine stop from Waterford keeper Matthew Connor early on, while Anthony McAlevey skied a shot for the visitors, but it was McDaid who opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Shane O'Connor played a hopeful ball over the top and Wexford keeper Corey Chambers came charging carelessly out of his goal, leaving McDaid with the simplest of finishes.

And centre-hald Delaney doubled the lead a minute before the break when, after staying up after a half-cleared set-piece, he headed McDaid's cross into an empty net.

Wall was introduced as a 71st-minute substitute and has already seen a shot crash off the bar when he rolled home after O'Connor had been brought down by Chambers.

Wall turned provided moments later when he crashed another shot off the bar, which fell for McDaid to volley into an empty net, before McDaid teed him up for an innovative second in injury time.

Waterford will now face Cobh Ramblers at the RSC in the second round on Easter Monday, April 17th, at 3pm.
