Ryan McEvoy returns to Ireland with Drogheda United

Drogheda United have announced the signing of former Bohemians and Bray Wanderers midfielder Ryan McEvoy following a spell in Australia .

McEvoy was seen in the stands at Drogheda’s Leinster Senior Cup defeat away to UCD on Friday and has now joined from Victoria State League side Essendon Royals, pending international clearance.

The 26-year-old signed for Bohemians in 2008, making his debut in a 4-3 EA Sports Cup win over Shelbourne in May 2009 and his league debut against Drogheda later in the same month.

McEvoy spent the first half of 2010 on loan at Longford before returning to Bohemians, only to be again loaned out to the midlands, this time to Athlone Town.

In 2012, McEvoy enjoyed his most successful season, scoring five goals in 19 league games before increasing that tally to six goals in 29 league games the following season.

McEvoy left Bohemians at the conclusion of the 2014 season, moving to fellow Premier Division side Bray Wanderers, for whom he would play every league game in 2015.

The midfielder then moved to non-league McKelvey Celtic of the Premier C before moving to Australia where he joined Essendon Royals.

Meanwhile, Hickey has been part of the Boynesiders under-19 side for the past two seasons and has now signed as backup to first choice netminder Stephen McGuinness.
