Connor Ellis signs new contract with Cork City

Cork City have announced that Connor Ellis has signed a contract extension at the club.

The forward spent the latter half of last season on loan at neighbours Cobh Ramblers, notching five goals in 12 games for the First Division side.

“I’m delighted; I’m at a club that is pushing for the league title and has done well in Europe last year, so hopefully we can push on from the cup success last season,” said the 19-year old after signing.

“I still have a long way to go but even in the first week of pre-season, I feel the game time I got at senior level last year has helped me.

“It is a big step up, so I just have to keep working hard and, hopefully, get some game time.”

Manager John Caulfield expressed his delight at having Ellis on board for next season and having local players come through the youth system stating;

“We are very happy to have another young, local player come through the ranks. Connor has been with us for quite a number of years and was prolific at Under 19 level.

“Sometimes people think the gap from Under 19s to the first team is a small one, but it is huge, particularly when you are challenging for trophies and playing in Europe. That’s why we have high hopes for Connor, because we can see that he is working hard and pushing for a place.

“I think he offers us a lot with his goal scoring ability, his pace and his work rate, so I expect him to have a major role this season.”

The Leesiders finished second last season, seven points behind champions Dundalk and will be hoping with the help of new signings that they will be able to beat the Lillywhites to the title this campaign.

City face St. Mary’s in the Munster Senior Cup and then Waterford in a friendly on the 25th and 28th of January respectively, before starting their 2017 Campaign away to Finn Harps on February 24th
