2016 WNL award nominees revealed

The nominations for the 2016 Continental Tyres Women’s National League Awards have been announced with 17-year-old Shelbourne Ladies striker Leanne Kiernan nominated for both the Senior and Young Player of the Year awards.

 

Also nominated for the Senior Player of the Year award is Kiernan’s Shelbourne teammate Noelle Murray and the versatile Karen Duggan of UCD Waves.

 

Kiernan, who scored a hat-trick in Shels' 5-0 victory against Wexford Youths in November's Women’s Senior Cup final has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award alongside Galway WFC’s Sadhbh Doyle and Peamount United’s Roma McLaughlin.

 

In addition to the two player of the year awards, Peamount United’s Amber Barrett will receive the Irish Daily Mail Golden Boot award at the awards ceremony following her 16 goals in the 2016 season.

The 2016 Continental Tyres Team of the Season has also been revealed, consisting of five Shelbourne players along with three from UCD, two from Peamount United and one from Galway WFC.
