Former Bohemians midfielder named in EFL Team of 2016

Former Bohemians midfielder Graham Carey is one of three Irish players named in the English Football League's official team of the year for 2016.

The Plymouth Argyle man joins Brentford defender John Egan and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper and Republic of Ireland international Kieren Westwood in the eleven.

27-year-old Carey spent five months on loan at Dalymount Park from Celtic during the 2009 season before he was denied an extension owing to a transfer embargo placed on the club by the FAI.

Dubliner Carey joined Celtic from Shelbourne's underage set-up and had spells with St Mirren, Huddersfield Town and Ross County before moving to England's south coast in 2015.

24-year-old Egan, the son of former Kerry gaelic footballer John Egan, began his senior career in England with Sunderland.

He spent time on loan at Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Bradford City and Southend United, but following two major knee injuries he was released in 2014.

The Cork-born defender joined Gillingham, scoring 10 goals in 81 games as the Gills sealed promotion to League One, before joining Brentford in July.

32-year-old Westwood began his career with his local club Manchester City but left without making an appearance to join Carlisle United in 2004.

Spells followed with Coventry City and Premier League Sunderland before he signed for Wednesday in 2014.

Westwood made his Republic of Ireland debut as a half-time substitute in a 1-1 friendly draw with Nigeria in 2009 and has since amassed 19 caps as well as being named in squads for Euro 2012 and Euro 2016.
