League of Ireland Attendances 2016 - Gameweek 29

Ten games were due to be played this weekend, with an additional three re-fixed games taking place early in the week. 20 minutes prior to Finn Harps game against St. Patrick’s Athletic kick-off, the referee deemed the pitch unplayable. As a result we have 12 attendance figures to report.

Dundalk played Shamrock Rovers and Derry City this week, both in Oriel Park, and their supporters were out in force. The Candystripes visit registered 2,561 which is Dundalk’s 3rd highest crowd of the league season. Shamrock Rovers game drew 2,490 and was their 4h highest attendance. The matches top the Gameweek charts as they occupy 1st and 2nd place.

Sligo Rovers crowd of 1,585 is down on their season average but it is close to the 1,609 that came out to see Cork City play back in April. They were the 3rd highest crowd of the Gameweek. Shamrock Rovers were 4th with 1,434 coming out to watch Galway United. This week Rovers offered TDs, Senators and MEPs two free tickets in reply to the All-Ireland debacle. Not sure if any availed of the promotion but a hat tip to the club on the idea.

Bohemians also got to play twice at home this week. Both crowd were well under the season average but whilst Longford’s crowd was consistent with many of the previous weeks, the game against Wexford Youths was a season low crowd of 895.

Of the rest of the games, Wexford Youths crowd against Bray Wanderers was up on the last visit of the Seagulls to Ferrycarrig Park. The previous clash of Cobh Ramblers and Waterford United attracted 251. This week saw 452 watch the match.

Since the last attendance article many of the clubs responded and provided figures so a big thanks for that. As it stands, from 263 games, we have 41 estimates, the majority of which come from Derry City, UCD and Cabinteely home games. The crowd total stands at 287,063 which is an average of 1,148 per game.

Below is a list of this Gameweek’s attendances from largest to smallest.
