Dundalk FC have this afternoon finally confirmed the signing of Vinny Faherty.

Faherty began training with the County Louth club a fortnight ago and despite Stephen Kenny being unsure as to whether a deal would be done, the Galway native has put pen to paper to tie him to Dundalk for the 2013 Airtricity League season.

The 25 year-old began his career with Salthill Devon, before their election to the league, and after three years with the Galway outfit, where he captained the under-21’s to a league title, he decided to join Galway United. He made a huge impression hitting the net on a regular basis along with providing numerous assists as he enjoyed a successful spell with the Tribesmen.

After finishing as Galway United’s top scorer in 2009, the frontman joined St. Patrick’s Athletic and spent one season at Richmond Park before departing for Australia to join Moreland Zebras, where he won a Victorian State League Division 1 title. In August 2012, the former Irish amateur international returned to Inchicore and appeared as a substitute in St Pat’s FAI Cup final defeat at the hands of Derry City.

Faherty is Stephen Kenny’s 17th signing and will be one of the more experienced heads in the dressing room. The striker joins the re-signed Eoghan Osbourne, John Mountney, Stephen McDonnell, Chris Shields and Peter Cherrie along with the new recruits of John Dillon, Patrick Hoban, Keith Ward, Andy Boyle, Dane Massey,Tiarnan Mulvenna, Richie Towell, Stephen O’Donnell, Kurtis Byrne, Mark Rossiter and John Sullivan. These are busy times for the Lilywhites and further signings are expected in the coming days as Kenny finalises his squad. Stay tuned to extratime.ie for all the latest news from Oriel Park!
