Dundalk have been busy in the transfer market recently and now they have confirmed former player Vinny Perth is to come on board as a first-team coach.

Perth, who spent one season at Oriel Park under John Gill in 2007, returns to county Louth and re-unites with Stephen Kenny for whom he played under at Longford Town, after a spell managing non-league Malahide United who, incidentally, were defeated last season in the third round of the FAI Cup by the Lilywhites.

The 36 year-old had a distinguished playing career where he enjoyed considerable success when he was part of the Longford Town team which claimed back-to-back FAI Cups in 2003 and 2004. He also added an EA Sports with the midlanders in 2004 along with a First Division title with Shamrock Rovers in 2006.

Released by the Hoops in the winter of 2006, Perth moved on to Dundalk but his one season was blighted by injury and when he left Oriel Park after the side’s playoff defeat to Finn Harps, the midfielder succeeded Aaron Callaghan in August 2008 as manager of his former club Longford Town but departed when his term was up at the end of the season.

Stephen Kenny has been busy assembling a squad for the new Airtricity League season, already signing 12 players. Perth is Kenny’s first backroom addition and further acquisitions are expected both on the pitch and off it at Oriel Park with pre-season training beginning this week.
