The annual Jim Malone Cup fixture between Dundalk and Drogheda United will take place on March 1st, it has been confirmed by Dundalk FC.

The match, which celebrates the great work done by Malone in helping both the Lilywhites and the Drogs, will be played at Oriel Park, kicking off at 7.45.

The Boynesiders have dominated the fixture since its inception and are the current holders defeating their Louth counterparts in February of last year.

Since the inception of the annual trophy in 1997, it has been dominated by Drogheda United as they have won all but two of the renewals with Dundalk taking the trophy in 2000 and most recently in 2010. The match didn’t take place in 2011 due to off the field problems surrounding the Drogs.

This year’s fixture will take place just one week before the beginning of the 2013 Airtricity League season and it may well be the final preparation for both Stephen Kenny and Mick Cooke ahead of the new season with Dundalk hosting Shamrock Rovers on March 8th with Drogheda United beginning away to St. Patrick’s Athletic.
