Shamrock Rovers have been granted permission by UEFA to host their Europa League group stage games at Tallaght Stadium.

Rovers, South Dublin County Council and the FAI, have been working to present the stadium within UEFA guidelines for the Europa League group games.

Following an inspection of the ground by UEFA officials on Tuesday, the association has given the Hoops the green light to play at Tallaght.

All games at this stage of the competition must have a minimum seating capacity of 8,000. The Hoops have met this requirement as well as improving press facilities.

Rovers chairman Jonathan Roche was thrilled with the decision.

He said: “It is wonderful news for us as a club, but also for the Tallaght area. We were pushing hard to have the games played at Tallaght, and are delighted that UEFA have given us the go-ahead.

“We are very grateful to the FAI - particularly chief executive, John Delaney and the licencing department – and to South Dublin County Council, for the great support and assistance they have given us to be able to have these games in Tallaght.”

John Delaney, CEO of the FAI was also overjoyed saying: “We are delighted to have been able to assist in this process and thank UEFA for this decision which will allow Shamrock Rovers to play their Europa League fixtures at their home venue.”

Michael O'Neill's men can now prepare to face Rubin Kazan, PAOK and Tottenham Hotspurs at the South Dublin venue.
