Ex-LOI Cross Channel - Week 1

With the football season in the UK well and truly underway, we thought we would bring you up to date on how the ex-League of Ireland lads who play across the water, got on at the weekend.

Premiership
Stephen Ward (ex Bohs) played 90 minutes and scored the winner after 48 minutes for Wolves in their 2-1 win against Blackburn at Ewood Park. Kevin Doyle (ex St Pats and Cork City) also played 90 minutes for Wolves in this game.

Conor Sammon (ex UCD and Derry City) came on after 52 minutes for Wigan Athletic in their 1-1 draw with Norwich City for whom Wes Hoolahan (ex Shelbourne) scored the equalising goal in the 45th minute at the DW stadium. Hoolahan played the full 90 minutes in this game.

Shane Long played 87 minutes on his debut for West Brom n their 2-1 defeat to Man Utd.

Championship
Keith Fahey (ex St Pats and Drogheda) played 90 minutes for Birmingham City and scored the winner after 73 minutes of their game against Coventry City for whom ex Cork City forward Roy O’Donavan played 86 minutes.

Noel Hunt (ex Shamrock Rovers and Waterford) scored the opener after 64 minutes for Reading in the Royals 2-0 win at Leicester City, Hunt played the full 90 minutes.

Damien Delaney (ex Cork City) played the whole game for Ipswich in their 1-0 home defeat by Hull City.

David Forde (ex Galway Utd. and Derry City) kept a clean sheet as Millwall beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the Den.

Gary Dicker (ex UCD) played 90 minutes for Brighton away to Portsmouth.

Paul Keegan (ex Bohs and Drogheda) came on for Doncaster Rovers against West Ham in the 76th minute.

League 1
Shaun Williams (ex Sporting Fingal) played the full game for the MK Dons at centre back in their 2-0 victory over Exeter and Jay O'Shea (ex Bray and Galway) was a 90th minute substitute for the Dons in this game.

Jonathan Douglas (ex Monaghan United) and Niall McGinn (ex Derry City) both played for Brentford as they lost 2-0 to Sheffield United. Douglas lasted the full game while McGinn who in on loan from Celtic was substituted at half time. Stephen Quinn (ex St Pats) played the full game for the Blades.

Dave Mooney (ex Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Cork City) came on after 64 minutes for Leyton Orient as they lost 1-0 to Tranmere who had ex Derry City defender Mark McChrystal in their team.

League 2
Kevin Long (ex Cork City) played 90 minutes for Accrington Stanley (on loan from Burnley) in their 1-2 defeat at home to Southend for whom ex Bray Wanderers player Graham Coughlan played 90 minutes

Ex Cork City defender Alan Bennett captained Cheltenham Town to a 1-0 win over Swindon Town.

Danny Spiller (ex Longford) scored for Gillingham as they beat Crewe Alexandra 2-1.

Scottish Premier League
Sean Dillon (ex Longford and Shelbourne) played the full game in Dundee United’s 5-1 defeat away to Celtic for whom Paddy McCourt (ex Derry City) came on in the 78th minute.

Richie Foran (ex Shels) played 90 minutes for Inverness Caledonian Thistle against Rangers. The Glasgow side ran out 2-0 winners in the Scottish highlands.

Alan Mannus (ex Shamrock Rovers) was an unused sub for St Johnstone in their scoreless draw away at Aberdeen.

Scottish League Division 1
James Chambers (ex Drogheda and Shamrock Rovers) scored for the spot for Hamilton yesterday against Ross County, Accies won 5-1 and it was Chambers second successful penalty in 5 days after he scored against Partick in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
