Drogheda United has announced the signing of Luke Wade Slater, previously of Warrenpoint Town, subject to international clearance.

The midfielder joins Kevin Doherty’s side after spending two years with Warrenpoint Town.

Wade Slater began his senior career at Stevenage, playing with the English side from 2015 to 2018, which also included a loan spell at Kings Langley in late 2018.

He returned to Ireland in January 2019, signing for Bohemians where he made 35 appearances before switching to Larne in October 2020.

The former Ireland underage international has since been with Warrenpoint, making over 70 appearances for The Point during his two seasons with the club.

On securing Wade Slater's signature, manager Kevin Doherty commented, “Luke’s a great lad. He’s versatile, can play a number of positions. It’s good to have a couple of players who can do that but I do have a position in mind for him. He’s a really exciting player, and he’ll be a really good addition for us.”

Wade Slater, who has been training with Drogheda United in recent weeks, is the third new addition of the transfer window.

Expressing his eagerness to make an impact with his new team, he said, “I’ve really enjoyed it, getting back into football after some time off. I’m versatile, right-back or either wing are the main areas I’ve probably played growing up, I’d be comfortable in those positions. There’s loads of big games coming up now so I want to come in and help the team, make an impact.”
