Rangers stay top despite draw in latest round of Scottish football fixtures

Rangers remain top of the Scottish Premiership thanks to a 2-2 draw away to Hibernian, however Celtic have cut the gap to just one point with a game in hand.

Celtic were the first of the Old Firm clubs in action over the weekend, securing a 3-2 victory over Livingston at Parkhead.

A Callum McGregor strike cancelled out an earlier Jason Holt penalty for Livingston.

Goals from Christie and Ajeti gave Celtic a 3-1 lead but a goal from Julien Serrano for the visitors meant it was a nervy finish for the defending champions.

The Hoops were less than thrilled with the tight victory over a club sitting at the bottom of the table, with manager Neil Lennon telling reporters “we need to tidy up on a few things defensively”.

Livingston manager Gary Holt was ‘frustrated’ saying “we've come here, played so well and conceded some soft goals. When we got back to 3-2, we had them rattled.”

The honours were shared at the clash at Easter Road between in-form Hibernian and Rangers.

Hibs have had a strong start to the season and looked like causing an upset when they took the lead through a goal from Drey Wright.

However Rangers struck back through Morelos and Arfield before Christian Doidge netted to secure a valuable point for Hibs, who drop down to third in the table but are just three points off the top.

Commenting after the game on his side’s performance, Hibernian head coach Jack Ross said “I've got a group of players who are satisfied but they wanted to win the match. They are recognising that they are a good side. Belief is growing all the time.”

In the other Sunday clash, Aberdeen slumped to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Motherwell.

The Dons will have to gather themselves ahead of a trip to Lisbon midweek for a Europa League qualification tie versus Sporting CP.

Ross County were 1-0 winners over St. Johnstone, the Highland club are currently fifth in the table.

Meanwhile there were 2-1 victories for Dundee United over St. Mirren and Kilmarnock against Hamilton.
