DLR Waves sign goalkeeper Sophie Lenehan from champions Wexford while Prior and Donnelly arrive from Shelbourne

DLR Waves continue their summer rebuild with the signing of goalkeeper Sophie Lenehan from champions Wexford Youths.

The 20-year-old is the latest in a string of new arrivals at Jackson Park following the triple capture of Ireland international Niamh Prior, Fiona Donnelly and Nicole Keogh from Shelbourne.

Another international returned to the club in the form of Jetta Berrill, while Orla Casey, Shauna Carroll and Chelsee Snell have also signed on the dotted line with Graham Kelly’s side.

Lenehan will compete with Ireland under-19 international Erica Turner for the number one shirt, while Prior and Snell will shore up an otherwise very young defence in Kilternan.

She replaces Tamara Furlong, who was one of three players to leave the club earlier in the month along with Aisling Spillane, who joined Kilkenny United, and Jess Morrissey.

The Ballindaggin native could end up as something of a quiz question in future years if she becomes the first player to play in goal for, and up front against, the same team in a league season.

Lenehan was the only substitute named on the bench for Youths’ visit to Jackson Park in May and she replaced striker Vanessa Ogbonna for the final seven minutes.

The goalkeeper joined Wexford in 2016 and won two league titles and an FAI Cup as well as featuring in two Champions League campaigns.
