Manchester United to face Paris Saint-Germain in pick of Champions League last 16 draw

Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain competitively for the first time in the pick of the last 16 draw for the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s side squeaked through in second place their qualifying group at the expense of Valencia despite losing their final group game 2-1 to the Spanish side at the Mestalla.

Their reward is a first-ever meeting with the Parisians, who breezed through a group containing Liverpool and Napoli to ensure top seeding.

Liverpool, who finished as runners-up on goal difference following their 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield on the final day, have been drawn with German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

The Germans survived a late scare away to Ajax on the final day to top Group E with an unbeaten record, though will be without striker Thomas Muller following his sending-off.

Ajax’s second-placed finish has been rewarded with arguably the toughest task of all as they’ve been drawn alongside Real Madrid, champions in each of the last three years.

The Spanish giants topped their group despite losing home and away to CSKA Moscow, as home-and-away wins over Roma ensured top spot with a game to play.

Manchester City will face German side Schalke 04 in the last 16 after they sealed top spot in Group F with a game to spare.

Schalke also reached the last 16 with a game in hand but, despite a last-minute win over Lokomotiv Moscow, were a distant second to Porto.

Tottenham Hotspur’s final-day draw at Camp Nou earned them a last 16 tie with Borussia Dortmund, who edged out Atlético Madrid on goal difference.

Atlético will face Juventus, Porto are paired with Roma and Barcelona have been handed the dseceptively-difficult task of Olympique Lyonnais in the other games.
