Wexford Youths sign Hawaiian striker McKenna Davidson ahead of Champions League kick-off

Wexford Youths have moved quickly to replace Ireland international Claire O'Riordan ahead of their Champions League campaign with the signing of American striker McKenna Davidson.

O'Riordan revealed on the extratime.ie Sportscast earlier this month that she'd signed professional terms with German Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg.

And Youths believe they've found a player who is ready to step up in her absence in the form of Hawaii native Davidson, who was last on the books of ISC Gunners in Seattle.

Davidson has prior experience playing in Ireland as she spent time study at the University of Limerick in 2016, and helped the college to win the First Division title.

After four years studying and playing with Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregan, she had a stint Chattanooga FC in Tennessee.

She's one of three new players to debut for Youths in recent weeks following the arrival of Doireann Fahey from Peamount United and Aisling Slattery progressing from the underage sides.

Davidson, who can play in all the front four positions, debuted as a late replacement for the league's top scorer Rianna Jarrett in the WNL Cup semi-final win over Galway on Saturday.

Wexford kick off their Champions League group against Ajax of Amsterdam on August 7th before meeting Thor/KA of Reykjavik and Linfield in Belfast.
