Mick Cooke appointed manager of LSL side Newbridge Town

Leinster Senior League side Newbridge Town have appointed Mick Cooke as their new manager following the departure of Paul Perth.

Perth parted company with the Kildare club following a successful three-year spell that culminated in the Metropolitan Cup win last month.

The former Longford Town defender had guided Newbridge back to the top tier of senior football in 2017 and led them to a respectable mid-table finish before stepping down.

Experienced League of Ireland coach Cooke was last in charge of Bray Wanderers in 2016, having saved the club from relegation the previous year.

The former Ireland women's coach had stints in charge of Monaghan United, Drogheda United and Athlone, leading Drogheda to a second-place finish in the Premier Division in 2012.

A club statement read: “Newbridge Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Mick Cooke as manager of our first team in the Leinster Senior League Senior division.

“Mick brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from a playing career which includes spells at St. Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers and Galway United as well as managerial experience at the top level of Irish football.

“Mick takes over the first team affairs with immediate affect and will lead our clubs first team into our 50th anniversary year in 2018/19 in the Leinster Senior League Senior Division.

“The committee of Newbridge town FC are very excited about this appointment and we look forward to working with Mick during his term in charge.

“Mick will be announcing his backroom team in the coming days and we wish him every success in his time in charge.”
