Ireland midfielder David Meyler signs for Reading

Republic of Ireland midfielder David Meyler has signed for Reading following the expiration of his contract at Hull City.

The 25-times-capped Corkman has signed an initial two-year deal with an option of a third year included.

29-year-old Meyler has spent the past six years with Hull after leaving Sunderland, winning promotion to the Premier League twice and playing three years at the top level.

The midfielder had previously represented Cork City and Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland before moving to the Stadium of Light as an 18-year-old.

“I was looking for ambition and I spoke to the manager – he lined that out for me and I want to get this club promoted,” Meyler told the club's official website.

“We spoke about the way he wants to play, what he wants to do and where he thinks this club should be. The focus is to get back to the Premier League and that’s what I’m here to do.

“I’m committed – I give 100% to everything I do. I’m coming here to get back to the Premier League and win promotion. That’s my aim, that’s the manager’s aim and that’s what I want to do.”

Meyler joins former international teammate John O'Shea in moving to the Madjeski Stadium, after the 37-year-old signed a one-year deal.
