Graham Burke scored an early contender for goal of the season as Shamrock Rovers roasted Bray Wanderers 6-0 on a freezing night in Tallaght.

The former Aston Villa striker had fans on their feet midway through the first half as he broke the deadlock with a stunning 30-yard effort that bounced in off the crossbar.

The Hoops had been restricted to half-chances until then but they cut loose after the break, adding five more.

Brandon Miele made it 2-0 two minutes into the second half as he got on the end of new signing Sean Kavanagh's inviting cross.

Another recent arrival, Dan Carr, brilliantly set up Dave McAllister for number three before calmly rounding the goalkeeper to slide in his first Rovers goal from a tight angle.

Kavanagh emphatically bagged his first Hoops goal from a free kick before Miele got his second, and Rovers' sixth, in the final minute of normal time.
