Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk to meet in EA Sports Cup final in Tallaght

Shamrock Rovers will face Dundalk in the EA Sports Cup final at Tallaght Stadium on Saturday, September 16th at 3pm after the venue was decided by lot at FAI HQ in Abbottstown.

The 44th League of Ireland Cup final will be broadcast live on Eir Sport, which showed last season's final between St Patrick's Athletic and Limerick at the Market's Field.

It's a repeat of the 2014 final when the two sides met at Oriel Park as goals from Dane Massey (2) and Patrick Hoban helped Stephen Kenny to his first trophy of many as Lilywhites boss.

The last final played at Tallaght Stadium saw Rovers run out 2-0 winners over another Louth side, Drogheda United, thanks to goals from Gary McCabe and current Dundalk player Tommy Stewart.

Rovers sealed passage to the final thanks to James Doona's 120th-minute winner over Cork City on Monday night, while Dundalk cruised to a 3-0 win over Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park earlier the same day.

As a result, league games between Cork City and Dundalk and between St Patrick's Athletic and Rovers have been postponed and will be rescheduled in due course.
