Watch: O'Connor heads Shamrock Rovers to victory over Finn Harps

Michael O'Connor scored his second Shamrock Rovers goal late in the first half to earn the Hoops a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Finn Harps in Ballybofey on Friday night.

Harps defender Packie Mailey tested Rovers keeper Tomer Chencinski with a close-range header early on before Brandon Miele flashed a volley wide at the other end in a game light on chances.

Former Dundalk striker O'Connor – facing his brother Ciaran, who started up front for the home side – broke the deadlock with a free header from Simon Madden's floated cross.

Danny Devine wasted a glorious chance for the Hoops as he nodded over with the goal at his mercy while Luke Byrne somehow managed to block Ciaran O'Connor shot with his chest at the other end.

Jonny Bonner's long-range effort was easily saved by Chencinski as Rovers held on for the clean sheet and three points while Harps' three-game unbeaten run came to a finish.
