Derry City's first game at Maginn Park abandoned due to floodlight failure

The game between Derry City and Limerick has been abandoned this evening after floodlight failure at Maginn Park 25 minutes into the contest in which the game was evenly poised at 1-1.

This was the Candystripes first match at their new home for the 2017 campaign, but it didn’t go to plan for the club and both sets of fans left very unhappy at the circumstances.

Limerick got off to the best possible start after Dean Clarke put the Super Blues into the lead after a great bit of counter attacking play.

Derry City responded through Ronan Curtis, who levelled the scoring after 18 minutes from a free kick, but several minutes later the ground was reduced to complete darkness after 25 minutes.

The ground staff tried to get the floodlight’s back up and running again, but with no fix achieved, this led to the ground to be evacuated soon afterward.

The FAI have also announced that the game has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 at Maginn Park, with kick off at 7.45pm.
