Cobh Ramblers re-sign quartet for 2017

Cobh Ramblers have re-signed four players from their 2016 squad ahead of the upcoming First Division season as Ian Mylod, Chris McCarthy, Jason Abbott and Matthew Whelan put pen to paper.

All four played a role in helping the Rams to reach the promotion play-off as Stephen Henderson's side lost narrowly 3-2 on aggregate to Drogheda United.

Chris McCarthy is the club's longest-serving player having joined for their inaugural season back in the League of Ireland in 2005.

Mylod returns for his second season at the club having joined from UCC at the beginning of 2015. He was previously a member of Cork City's under-19 league-winning side in 2011/12.

Cobh-born Abbott also won an under-19 title with Cork City before signing for UCC and spent some time in the US at Boston College before signing for the Rams midway through 2015.

18-year-old Whelan makes the step up from the club's under-19 structure having scored twice in three senior appearances at the end of last season, including one on his home debut against Cabinteely.

The quartet join another former Cork City under-19 league winner, Craig Donnellan, in the squad for 2016.
