Daryl Horgan: Nothing is won yet

Daryl Horgan was the difference between the rival title challengers on Tuesday night as Dundalk saw off rivals Cork City by two goals to one.

The Galwegian winger’s free kick rebounded off the unfortunate Mark Mc Nulty to open the scoring while his lung bursting run and blistering drive from the edge of the box saw the lead doubled.

Speaking to Extratime.ie reporter Tom O Connor after the game he conceded, “It was (nice) to see them go in”, while claiming “it probably wasn’t my best performance”, despite being announced as the Man of the Match in front of an audience which included Republic of Ireland manager Martin O Neill.

Horgan praised his team mates by claiming, “we worked as hard as I’ve ever seen, it was a tremendous shift, right throughout and it was a fantastic performance by us.”

He spoke of his disappointment with the Sligo game and how it turned out before stating, when questioned about the end of the league, “We’ve five massive games, we need a minimum of four wins. I fully expect Cork to win all their games. I don’t this game will rock them. They’ve too much experience and too much quality for that.”

“They’ll think there’s an opportunity because we’ve a very tough fixture run-in, but hopefully we can play as well as we did tonight and I suppose like we’ve played all season and go on and win the league.”
