Ireland unchanged In latest Fifa rankings

THE Republic of Ireland remain at an all-time low of 67^th in the latest Fifa World Rankings released today, with the top three of Spain, Germany and Argentina also unchanged.

Martin O’Neill’s men, who haven’t been in action since their scoreless draw away to Poland in Poznan last November, host Serbia, who climbed one place to 29^th, in a friendly on 5^th March in Dublin.

England have fallen two places to 15^th, Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland have jumped up five places to 85^th, Wales are up four places to 51^st and Scotland have also improved their standing by moving up three places to 34^th.

It was a bad day for West African nations Mali and Togo as they both fell by a staggering nineteen places to 59^th and 90^th respectively following less than impressive African Nations Cup outings.

Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane will be hoping to restore 'The Boys in Green' to a respectable position in the rankings, it being exactly twenty years since Ireland held their best ever ranking of 9^th going into USA ’94.  

While a top 10 ranking may be a long way away, there is a renewed optimism around the national team and O’Neill will be hoping for a positive performance from his charges at home to Serbia next month.
