Limerick win promotion to Premier Division

Limerick have secured promotion to the Premier Division following Waterford United’s 2-1 defeat to Mervue United.

Pat Scully's team will travel to Flancare Park tomorrow night to tackle Longford Town, but the result is merely academic as the Shannonsiders' four point lead guarantees them the title due to Waterford having only a single game to play.

Goals from Etanda Nkololo and Alan Murphy were enough to secure Mervue the win and in turn, promote Limerick.

Limerick are currently the longest serving First Division side, having not been in the top flight since 1994. The last time they were promoted was under the management of current West Ham boss Sam Allardyce.
