Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of UCD midfielder Paul Corry, for an undisclosed fee. Corry has joined the Championship side on a three year deal.

The 21-year-old has been a mainstay in the UCD side for the last few years, and his performances had attracted attention from several English sides previously, with Corry having rejected a move to Burnley in 2009. He opted to stay with the Students and was appointed captain of the side last season.

Having played almost 100 games for the Students, Corry will go straight into Dave Jones’s squad and has been allocated the no. 21 jersey.

Also an ExtraTime.ie columnist, Corry said: “I have bided my time for the right move at the right time and this is it for me.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a club with a huge heritage and history and the stadium just blows you away.

“I really can’t wait to get started and, like everyone else at the club, I have ambitions of playing in the Premier League.

“But it’s one step at a time, I know it will be difficult at first but once I settle in and get my sharpness, I have the confidence in my ability to do well for Sheffield Wednesday.”

He was also called up to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for their recent qualifier with Turkey by manager Noel King, and was the only Airtricty League player in the squad.
