The FAI and Today FM have confirmed they have come up with a cunning plan to record a hit song for EURO 2012.

Radio presenter Ray D’Arcy will invite fans to send in their snippets of wisdom to his show on Today FM between 9 and 12 before the deadline on Wednesday morning. Fans looking to contribute to the song should be aware that it will be a remake of “The Rocky Road to Dublin”, and will be called “The Rocky Road to Poland”.

Many star names have already put their names forward to help with the song, with Corona’s frontman Danny O’Reilly, and Damien Dempsey set to try out lines live on air this coming Wednesday.

When the lines are completed, a folk team of Bressie, Damien Dempsey, Danny O Reilly and the Dubliners will record the song in Windmill Lane studios on Thursday. The proceeds from the song will be split between two worthy causes, the John Giles Foundation and “Shave or Dye” run by Today FM for the Irish Cancer Society.

Previous songs for tournaments include Put em’ under Pressure, the famous song from Italia 90 which was produced by Larry Mullen, there was “Give it a lash Jack it in 94, and “Here comes the good times”, which featured members of Westlife, was the song for 2002. None of the above however could match “Joxer Goes to Stuttgart” for EURO 88, and this new team of singers should aim to emulate Christy Moore’s hit.

Fans looking to contribute can email euro2012@todayfm.com or text 53102 with as many lines as they’d like.
