Members of Bohemians Football Club have backed the board’s decision to press ahead with efforts to sell Dalymount Park in an attempt raise the €4 million the club owes.

The news came after over 300 members attended an EGM on Thursday night. According to a statement issued by the club, members voted “by overwhelming majorities” to put the stadium up for sale on the open market if issues surrounding ownership of a section of the ground are resolved.

During the meeting, members were also briefed by the club’s legal advisers on the €4m owed to Zurich bank.  The club has until June of next year to meet the payment.

“Members voted by overwhelming majorities on motions to authorise the club’s board to take steps to resolve the legal issues arising from contracts on the sale of Dalymount Park. This followed a detailed briefing on those issues by the club’s legal adviser.”

“The board was also authorised to put the property up for sale on the open market if the issues surrounding the current contracts are set aside. Members were briefed on the €4 million debt to Zurich Bank and the huge challenges facing the club in preparing for next season.”

Bohemians President Chris Brien said: “We have a very strong mandate from the members to proceed in a certain direction for the longer term.  But things will be tough in the short term too.  We’re calling on members and supporters to get behind the club’s efforts in every way possible.”
