Following his team’s victory against Galway United in Terryland Park, Paul Cook was full of praise for the effort his Sligo Rovers outfit expended in dismantling a dogged Galway United team. He spoke to Extratime.ie after the entertaining encounter.

John Dillon got the only goal in a wind and rain-swept Terryland Park, a goal Cook was pleased to see scored given the competition put in front of his Bit ‘O Red, “Galway have some really good players, they’ve a good work ethic about them, so to come here and get the three points, we’re delighted.”

Sligo welcomed back the mercurial Joseph Ndo in the final ten minutes of the encounter but Cook was quick to commend the collective effort, particularly with a busy ten days around the corner, “Joe’s a smashing player but we’ve got loads of good players at the club, as a manager the problem is getting them all enough game time.”

Sligo fans who are looking for a return to the enterprising play Sligo displayed last year were left in no doubt as to the intention to return to that form “We always try to play good football, people who watch us, tonight the conditions didn’t suit us... But we still tried to play, I thought as the game went on our fitness levels looked good, we created a lot of chances late on and probably should have scored a goal or two (more)”.

Cook was in high praise of his counterpart Sean Connor and the Galway United team he has assemble, adding to his delight at the win, “Every game in the Premier League is a tough game, in the majority of games there seems to be an odd goal between teams”.
