Shelley signs for Red Devils

After weeks of speculation former Bohemians defender Brian Shelley has signed with Australian side, the Ballarat Red Devils.

The 29-year-old arrived in Ballarat on Sunday and will begin training with his new team later this week.

Shelley was involved in a winding-up order against his former employers and admitted that despite being in talks with the club for some time, he wanted to end the legal dispute with Bohs before committing to the Australian side.

Speaking to a local Ballarat newspaper, The Courier, Shelley said: "I didn't know for sure (about joining the Red Devils) until last week."

The Dubliner could make his debut as early as next Sunday in a friendly match, insisting he is fit and ready to go.

"I'm ready to go. I played in a tournament in Ireland two weeks ago, so I'm fit and ready to play," Shelley said.

As well as playing, it is understood the defender will also take up a development role at the Ballarat club.

The Ballarat Red Devils are based in Victoria, Australia, and play in the Football Federation Victoria State League Division two North-West.
