Cretaro could be set for Sligo return

Raffaele Cretaro could be set to make a return to Sligo Rovers, insisting it is his most likely option as he seeks a move away from cash-strapped Bohemians.

However the 29-year wants to sort contract issues with his current club before he decides on where he will be playing his football next season.

“I'm in talks with a few clubs but I'm waiting on the whole Bohs thing to get sorted to move forward. Hopefully it'll be sorted in the next week.

“Obviously they (Sligo) would be the obvious option. I've played under Paul Cook before and thoroughly enjoyed it so I'd say going home is my likeliest option,” he said.

Cretaro told Extratime.ie he is disappointed at the current situation at Dalymount Park but announced he is firmly behind the actions of team-mates Brian Shelley and Stephen Gray, who have sought a winding-up order against the club.

“I'm 100% behind the two lads. They have mortgages and families and they are obviously in a different situation to what I'm in – they need the money.

“But of course I wouldn't like to see Bohs go bust or anything like that. I'm sure from speaking to the two lads involved that they don't want that either,” he insisted.

Cretaro was a firm fans favourite at The Showgrounds before he left the club ahead of the 2010 season and believes that if he does indeed return, The Bit O' Red can challenge for the title. But he doesn't expect to be greeted with open arms by the Sligo faithful.

“I don't regret leaving Sligo one bit, I've learned a lot and got a lot of experience from my year at Bohs but I'm not expecting to be welcomed back with open arms if I do go back to Sligo.

“I think next year is going to be very tight. You have Dundalk who have added decent players to their squad and you have Pat's too. I'm sure it will be on Paul Cook's mind to go one step better than last season though and challenge for a title.”
