League Champions Bohemians make the trip to Hunky Dory’s Park this Monday evening as their title ambitions hang by a thread as they face lowly Drogheda United.
The lights went out last time this fixture was played between the sides. Bohemians were in the ascendancy and a goal to the good going into the break however a power failure at the Drogheda venue brought the curtain down earlier than expected, with a replay required.
Drogheda United lost 2-1 to Galway United their bottom of the table rivals in a bizarre match, in which all three goals scored were penalties. The visitors to Terryland Park started the brighter and could have been two nil up early on, only for a missed opportunity and a goal ruled out for offside.
Bohemians were also away on Friday night, as they took a spin down the M1 to face Dundalk. The Dubliners claimed all three points on offer after producing a 2-1 victory. Mark Quigley and Paul Keegan netting home either side of the half time break, in what was a tight affair at Oriel Park.
Coming into the game it is clear to see that Bohemians are the easy favourites, however despite the loss and recent run of poor form could see an upset on the cards. Director of Football at Hunky Dory Park Darius Kierans told extratime.ie that he is optimistic ahead of tonight's clash. "It will be a difficult game, they have a big squad and are still in with a chance of winning the league. Bohs will see this fixture as three points in the bag, but we won't make it easy for them."
"We did well in Galway and were unlucky over there on Friday. I feel we played very well and created a lot of chances. We have been working hard and our luck has to change soon," commented Kierans.
Drogheda will be without the suspended McMahon and also long term injury Brendan McGill. Eoghan Osbourne joins the injury list, as Corie Tracey and Jamie Harris fill up the space on the injury bench. More concerned for the home side as Mick Daly and Ryan Brennan are both said to be 50-50 for the tie. In the Drogheda line-up tonight will be a number of young players, who have been drafted in from the A-team, to fill the holes left by suspensions, injuries and illness.
Bohemians are without Stephen Gray and Anto Murphy who both have Achilles injuries. This week also see's the completion of a move to Wolves for young gun Matt Doherty, however the Gypsies have strength in the depth of their squad.
