Longford Town fans will see a familiar face in the defence for the 2022 season with the re-signing of Shane Elworthy.

After four seasons and ninety seven appearances for De Town, the right full back is set to reach a century in his fifth campaign at Bishopsgate.

24 year old Elworthy is a product of the St Kevin’s Boys Academy and was at Fulham for three years earlier in his career before joining St Patrick’s Athletic and their Under 19 side in the summer of 2016. He spent 2017 at Drogheda United, appearing 19 times for the Boynesiders and netting twice in the FAI Cup.

2018 saw a move to the midlands and he netted a solitary goal that campaign- coming in the dying embers of a 5-1 victory over UCD. 2019 saw plenty of appearances but no goals for the Dubliner but in 2020 he scored against UCD once more and ended the season achieving promotion with Daire Doyle’s men.

Last season, he was once again a mainstay of the defence and spoke to ltfc.ie about looking forward to 2022, “I’m delighted to have signed back for Longford. I’m going into my fifth season with the club now. I’m very positive about the season ahead having spoken to Gary and can’t wait to get going again”.
