Watch: Hansberry shoots Wexford to top spot with Peamount win

Wexford Youths climbed to the top of the Women's National League with a 1-0 victory over erstwhile leaders Peamount United at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday evening.

The two sides came into the game with the league's only remaining unbeaten records, with the Peas two points ahead with four games each played.

And it was an early goal that settled it for Laura Heffernan's side as an Emma Hansberry corner from wide on the right bounced in front of Peas keeper Naoise McAloon and into the corner of the net.

Peamount had chances to get back into the game as Eleanor Ryan Doyle saw her long-range shot stopped by Sophie Lenehan in the Youths goal before slicing another effort at the keeper.

After the break, the Peas' Emma Byrne saw her goalbound header stopped on the line before Wexford's Kylie Murphy headed narrowly wide.

Louise Corrigan headed a Megan Lynch free kick wide in the closing stages and Ryan Doyle came close to getting on the end of another fine Lynch delivery but Wexford held out to take top spot.
