WNL Report: Galway WFC 3 - 1 Peamount United

As swirling rain came down on Deacy Park, Galway on Saturday evening, Galway WFC consolidated their place as joint league leaders recording a 3-1 win over visitors Peamount United.

Early in the first half, a Lynsey McKee corner from the left glanced off the head of Galway full-back Sophie Moloney to leave Brook Dunne stranded and open Galway's account. Ten minutes later the sides were level when Niamh Farrelly rose unchallenged to head past Tina Hughes from a Roma McLoughlin corner.

Level at the break, the weather made for a scrappy second half. Peamount took the game to Galway and looked likely to score until a deft chip over the defence by Sophie Moloney was whacked home, almost on the goal-line by the inrushing Ellierose O'Flaherty. Five minutes later, the 17-year old O'Flaherty rose above the defence to nod a corner to the net and see Galway home, if not dry!
