Wexford Youths all set for 3rd WNL season

Sunday August 25th will see Wexford Youths Women kick off their third season in the Bus Eireann Women's National League and manager John Flood has been busy during the summer break as he bids to launch a serious challenge for the title.

After two good seasons, finishing fourth in 2012 and one place better last season, the girls in pink will be looking to build on those performances and challenge the top two.

Already three new signings have been made in the form of Republic of Ireland Under 17 International Jenny Clifford from Evergreen, Carlow IT student and former LFC Berlin player, Julia Testorp and Kate McCarthy who joins the Youths after a season with DLR Waves.

All three signings have been brought in to strengthen an already well balanced squad which will see the return of a number of last season's more experienced players such as Mary Rose Kelly, Jessica Gleeson and Lauren Dwyer to name just a few.

Young player of the year Rianna Jarrett is also signed but as she is still recovering from a cruciate ligament operation, she is unlikely to be back to full strength until January although her recovery rate at present is on course.

Several other players are still going through the trial process while a couple of new signings are still possible and Flood is confident that with the proper attitude from his squad as well as a bit of luck in the big games, Wexford can keep their league title ambitions well on track.

Wexford kick off their campaign with a tricky away tie against new club Galway FC on August 25th and their first home game is a week later against Shamrock Rovers.
