Signed from Cherry Orchard in 2004, the Irish U-19 international made an explosive start to his UCD career with a hat-trick in an U-21 game against Shamrock Rovers. By that season's end, he had 26 goals for the U-21s, and had also played 76 minutes for the first-team, scoring three times, including a match-winning double in Dundalk.

In four years at Belfield Paul made 59 league appearances and scored 15 league goals. In the summer of 2008 he moved to Sporting Fingal where he made another 15 league appearances, scoring twice, during the club's first season in league football.

2009 saw Paul move to the seaside where one season at Bray Wanderers yielded 24 league appearances and another two league goals.

In 2010 Paul was on the move again, signing for his old UCD boss, Pete Mahon, at St Patrick's Athletic. Paul made 25 league appearances scoring four times. He was released by the club at the end of the season and emigrated to Australia.

In the summer of 2011 Paul returned to Ireland and signed for Roddy Collins at Monaghan United, first appearing in a friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers in July. He made just 4 league appearances for the Mons as the won promotion to the Premier Division via the play-offs and at the start of 2012 Paul moved on again, signing for Alan Mathews at Shelbourne who were also freshly promoted from the First Division.

Paul made his debut for Shels in a 2-1 defeat to Cork City on 27 April 2012 and made 11 league appearances over the season, scoring once, in a 3-2 defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park in June.
