Live Updates for Cork City -v- Sligo Rovers

90'

Four minutes proclaimed to be added on. Surely any goal now would win it. Can either side manage it?

90'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Cork City and Sligo Rovers.

88'

Substitution

Brian Morley replaces Kris Twardek for Sligo Rovers.

85'

James Keaney is played into room outside the City penalty area. He steadies himself and releases a snap shot before he is blocked. It goes just wide

84'

A cross is swung over after a corner is cleared. Garry Buckley's header is straight at the keeper though.

83'

Yellow Card

John Mahon is booked for Sligo Rovers.

81'

Darragh Rainsford finds himself at the back post unmarked. He is unable to beat the advancing Beeney however.

77'

Substitution

Darragh Rainsford replaces James Tilley for Cork City.

75'

The introduction of the two young substitutes for City seem to have injected a new life into them. Can they bring about the crucial goal for the home side?

73'

O' Connor and Darragh Crowley orchestrate a decent one-two by the corner flag. It leads to O' Connor crossing to Sheppard but Sheppard's header is saved by Beeney.

71'

It hasn't been the best of evenings for Cummins to say the least. He is swapped off for young striker Rainsford

71'

Substitution

Darragh Crowley replaces Graham Cummins for Cork City.

70'

City seem overly anxious at the moment. Too many of their passes are being misplaced, players getting in the way of one another and snatching at chances. The pressure is intense

69'

Substitution

Jack Keaney replaces Liam Kerrigan for Sligo Rovers.

68'

Another chance for Sligo. Ronan Coughlan beats Sean McLoughlin on the sideline before setting towards goal. His low shot from a tight angle hits the post though.

66'

A free kick from Tilley is floated in but no-one is able to make a proper connection. It drifts out

65'

The ball finds itself at the feet of Garry Buckley. He is in space but delays shooting. He instead plays it wide to Daire O Connor who advances and shoots. He is only able to find the side netting though

62'

A period of head tennis at the moment as neither side can get it down and control it

60'

Sheppard sends in another cross but it is headed over under pressure by Cummins.

59'

After a few minutes of high balls from both teams, Buckley shows them how to do it. A wonderful crossfield ball to Shane Griffin. His cross his caught though.

57'

Banks receives the first yellow card of the game after bodychecking Garry Buckley. The latter had collected the ball and had looked to advance into open space

57'

Yellow Card

Lewis Banks is booked for Sligo Rovers.

56'

Attendance announced as being 2302.

56'

Substitution

Daire O'Connor replaces Garry Comerford for Cork City.

55'

Fine ball played straight through the centre of the City defense by Russell. No Sligo player is alive to the chance as it goes through to McNulty.

54'

Conor McCarthy goes down following a collision in midfield. The free is hoisted in and leads to an opportunity for McLoghlin. His volley is charged down by Beeney though.

53'

Sheppard seeks to pull off an acrobatic volley but miscues it. The ball is crossed back in but it leads to nothing

52'

Despite that enforced sub, Sligo appear to be on the front foot at the moment. They are passing around with a regained sense of confidence and pressing City back.

47'

John Russell replaces Leverock as the big defender seemed to pull up after another clearance. A bit of a switch required for the away side

47'

Substitution

John Russell replaces Dante Leverock for Sligo Rovers.

46'

Second Half

The second half between Cork City and Sligo Rovers has started.

45' + 3'

One could sense frustration building as the half came to an end. The build up has been too laboured and slow for most of the 45 plus minutes. City need to do more to break down this Sligo side.

45' + 3'

Half Time

It is half-time between Cork City and Sligo Rovers.

45' + 2'

Sheppard advances again down the wing. His cross is met by Cummins. He is stretching to reach it though and it is saved by Beeney.

45'

Three minutes announced. Can either side manage a breakthrough?

41'

City switch off for a moment as they believe that a header has gone wide. It is retrived by Twardek whose cross is just about collected by McNulty.

38'

Chance for City again. Sheppard advances down the right flank, he plays a ball inside to the supporting McCormack. His low ball is intended for Tilley but he slips at the wrong time and the chance is cleared.

33'

Conor McCormack goes to win the ball in midfield. His foot is too high and catches the head of Twardek instead. First into the book

33'

Yellow Card

Conor McCormack is booked for Cork City.

32'

City too eager to get the ball forward quickly at the moment. Many of these are just being intercepted or going out of play. Much to the annoyance of the home crowd.

28'

James Tilley is in the wars again. He is taken down by Niall Morahan on this occasion. From the free-kick, Cummins flicks a header just over. Beginning to warm up now.

26'

Should have been one nil. Kris Twardek does brilliantly to beat his man and deliver a cross into the area. Ronan Coughlan is unmarked but his header is straight at McNulty. A massive let off for the home side.

25'

James Tilley is being attended to following a collision. Both teams decide to take on water and the young attacker is fine to continue on.

22'

Sligo break out following an interception and Ronan Coughlan finds himself in space. His low shot into the corner is held by McNulty. From it, the ball is played forward to Cummins whose shot goes over the ball. He was slipping when shooting but should have done better. A bit of action at last!

21'

Sligo win two corners in a row. Both come to nowt however

16'

Garry Comerford delivers a floating ball into the area after he is found in space around the half-way line. Sheppard connects with it but it seems to hit his shoulder more so than his head. Mitchell Beeney is able to collect it easily

13'

A lack of real action so far it has to be said.

12'

Appeal for hand-ball as Sean McLoughlin's volley, following a corner, is blocked. Seemed more ball to hand and the referee is uninterested.

11'

Dante Leverock clatters into the back of Karl Sheppard. From a good position, Dan Casey's effort goes straight into the wall

10'

Comerford is warned for coming into the back of his opponent. Resulting free comes to nothing though

8'

Ball is headed out by Sean McLoughlin. Not much distance on it though. David Cawley tries a snap shot which is held by Mark McNulty

6'

Shane Griffin delivers a cross from the left, which is missed by Cummins. John Dunleavy is quick to clear it before any further trouble develops.

3'

Sligo work a throw-in down in the bottom corner. Liam Kerrigan's cross is collected though

2'

Conor McCarthy brings the ball forward, before hoisting a decent cross into the area. It is miscleared by John Mahon out for a corner. The set piece comes to nothing though

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Cork City and Sligo Rovers has kicked off.

1'

Cork City get the game underway attacking the St. Anne's End. The crowd continue to trickle in.

0'

For the home side, Garry Comerford comes back from suspension in to replace Gearoid Morrissey, who drops out completely. Karl Sheppard returns from injury to replace the teenager Darragh Crowley. He will be expected to partner Graham Cummins up front.

Sligo make three changes. All three players who came off the bench last Friday get their chance to start. Sam Warde, Kris Twardek and Liam Kerrigan replace jack Keaney, Daryl Fordyce and Romeo Parkes. Ronan Coughlan and John Dunleavy return to their former home.

Greetings from a bright and sunny Turners Cross. My name is Philip Morrissey and I will be providing your updates from this afternoon's encounter between Cork City and Sligo Rovers.

Both sides find themselves looking nervously towards the bottom of the table, rather than upwards. Sligo may have been predicted to struggle again this season, but the travails of the home side are a bit more surprising. Just one home victory all season and a lack of goals have been the cause of this. The Cross is not the fortress it used to be.

Sligo received praise for their display at Richmond Park last Friday. It did result in yet another defeat, and they are just above UCD in the table.

Can this be a turning point for either sides?
