League Report: Bohemians 1 - 1 Cork City

Adam Evans struck in the final minutes to salvage a draw for Bohemians against Cork City at Dalymount Park on Monday afternoon.
The winger's firmly struck volley ensured the points were shared in a game City led for all but eight minutes, after Mark O'Sullivan had opened the scoring in spectacular fashion early on.
There were barely 90 seconds on the clock when Robbie Creevy surrendered the ball to Cork midfielder Liam Miller, who broke with intent and played in O'Sullivan, who stunned the home faithful by rifling into the top corner.
Cork City were looking forward to getting back to winning ways after suffering their first loss of the season at home to Dundalk in the previous game, and will no doubt have heard before kick-off that the Lilywhites had hammered Bray Wanderers 8-1 to stretch their margin over the Leesiders to eight ponts.
Bohemians manager Keith Long made one change to the side that beat Derry at the Brandywell: Robbie Creevy recovered from an ankle injury to replace Dean Kelly, who dropped out of the squad entirely.
Cork City boss John Caulfield made two changes to his team following their first loss of the season to Dundalk. Garry Buckley came in for captain John Dunleavy – who will miss four months with a knee injury sustained in that game – while Mark O'Sullivan was preferred to John O'Flynn up front.

Bohemians reacted well to going behind so early in the game and looked to get their passing game going, but Marc Griffin – up front on his own in Kelly's absence – found it difficult to make the ball stick against the physical defensive partnership of Alan Bennett and Darren Dennehy.
Cork continued to carry the greater attacking threat with the front of trio of O'Sullivan, Karl Sheppard and Billy Dennehy causing problems for the comparatively less mobile Bohemians defence.
Dennehy's floated free-kick required an excellent intervention from Roberto Lopes with O'Sullivan lurking, while Sheppard was unlucky to see one early move break down when referee Padraigh Sutton harshly adjudged him to have dived over the leg of Derek Pender.
Bohemians made more inroads as the half wore on, and Alan Bennett saw yellow for a lunge as Lopes surged towards the Cork penalty box, and Mark McNulty was required to tip Lorcan Fitzgerald's free kick over the bar.
Paddy Kavanagh was proving a handful for his namesake John down Bohemians' left-hand side, and, after turning the youngster this way and that, he threaded a pass through for Griffin that Bennett did excellently to cut out.

Bennett limped off with what appeared to be a muscle injury shortly after, as did Anto Murphy during the half-time break after a heavy collision with Mark O'Sullivan that initially seemed to have knocked him out cold.
The second half continued in a similar vein as Bohs continued to attack with pace but little penetration while, for Cork, Mark O'Sullivan had the beating of Pender. O'Sullivan's cross, via Sheppard's flick, sat up perfectly for Garry Buckley and the midfielder's clean volley only barely missed the crossbar.
A near-identical scenario, minus the flick, unfolded at the other end when Pender's deep cross found an unguarded Griffin, but he couldn't quite put his foot through the ball and his volley bounced harmlessly into McNulty's arms.
Keith Long introduced Jason Byrne for the final 20 minutes and he sought to gain a proper foothold in Cork territory, and Griffin really should have levelled it up when he broke the Cork offside and raced on goal, but he took the ball too wide and support had arrived by the time McNulty parried his effort away from goal.
Moments later, Bohemians got the goal their endeavour warranted, as Pender's right-wing cross was only half cleared by John Kavanagh, and Evans smashed the ball past McNulty's despairing clutches.
